About Luisa Fuentes

Luisa Fuentes emigrated from Lima, Peru, to Minnesota over 27 years ago, bringing with her a deep conviction that education, language, and culture are powerful engines for equity, identity, and social transformation. She holds degrees in Journalism and Early Childhood Education from Peru and completed advanced English studies at the University of Minnesota, a multidisciplinary foundation that uniquely informs her leadership at the intersection of education, communication, and cultural advocacy.

From the outset of her career, Luisa intentionally pursued a professional path aligned with her education and lived experience, one designed to generate meaningful community impact while fostering kinship, belonging, and a deeper understanding of Latin American cultures and the Spanish language.

In 2003, she founded Rayito de Sol Spanish Immersion Early Learning Centers with a bold and enduring vision: to prepare children to thrive as culturally grounded leaders by integrating an exclusive, research-based curriculum with first-class childcare services and full Spanish language immersion. A central source of inspiration has always been her son, Nick, an American with Peruvian roots, and her commitment to ensuring that children like him grow with pride in their heritage, clarity of identity, and confidence in who they are.

Guided by her deep connection to Hispanic and Latinx heritage and strong business acumen, Luisa expanded Rayito de Sol into a nationally recognized model of excellence. The program offers immersive Spanish language learning while introducing children to a global landscape of cultures, people, places, and traditions. Early exposure to diversity cultivates empathy, global awareness, and community cohesion, outcomes that positively shape future generations. Rayito de Sol also integrates STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) as a core instructional approach, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and innovation from the earliest years through its proprietary curriculum, Future Leaders.

Under her leadership, Rayito de Sol has become an award winning institution recognized for both educational excellence and business leadership. Luisa’s honors reflect sustained impact, innovation, and long-term organizational stewardship, including induction into the NAWBO Women Business Owners Hall of Fame (2025) for her national influence and legacy as a woman entrepreneur. She was named Notable Hispanic Leader by Twin Cities Business (2024) for shaping the regional business and education landscape, and received Latino Business of the Year (2023) in recognition of Rayito de Sol’s growth and community impact.

Earlier honors include Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year (SBA Minnesota, 2022), Notable Woman Entrepreneur (2022), Minneapolis/St. Paul Woman in Business Award (2016), Diversity in Business Award (2014), Minnesota Family Business Award (2013), and Small Business Success Stories Award (2012), together marking a trajectory of excellence from early entrepreneurship to national leadership.

Rayito de Sol centers are NAEYC-accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children, placing them among the top 9% of early childhood programs nationwide. With expansion across Minnesota and Illinois, the organization remains focused on strategic national growth, with a long-term vision of reaching 25 locations by 2030, while preserving curriculum integrity, cultural authenticity, and educational excellence.

GLOBAL INITIATIVES & CULTURAL ENTERPRISES

In addition to Rayito de Sol, Luisa has founded and leads several complementary initiatives that expand her impact beyond early learning into global education, culture, and identity-based leadership.

She is the Founder and President of the International Early Childhood Education Association, an international platform that unites educators, institutions, and leaders committed to bilingualism, intercultural pedagogy, and professional standards in early childhood education. The association advances training, certification, research, and cross-border collaboration among Spanish-speaking countries and the United States.

Luisa is also the Founder and Executive Director of GLOW – Golden Leaders of the World, a nonprofit organization dedicated to humanitarian action, leadership development, and educational equity across the United States and Latin America. Through GLOW, she leads international initiatives that provide educational resources, cultural programming, and community support to underserved populations.

As Co-Founder and CEO of Patapetpit, Luisa created a bilingual educational brand that promotes cultural identity through storytelling, technology, design, and child-centered products. Patapetpit bridges education and creativity, reinforcing language development and cultural pride from early childhood.

She is also Co-Founder and Executive Producer of Marinera Producciones, a cultural production company dedicated to elevating Peruvian heritage on international stages. Through this platform, she serves as Executive Producer of Amor de Marinera, a large-scale musical theater production celebrating Peru’s national dance and cultural legacy.

BOARD SERVICE & CULTURAL LEADERSHIP

Beyond her executive roles, Luisa Fuentes is a respected community leader, cultural producer, and advocate. She serves on the board of Caminos del Inka, dedicated to preserving and promoting the musical heritage of the Americas, and on the board of Hispanic Public Media, a national nonprofit that amplifies Latino voices through public media, journalism, storytelling, and civic engagement.

Internationally, Luisa represents Peru as a national champion of Marinera, the country’s traditional dance, bridging education, art, and cultural diplomacy on global stages.

Proud of her Hispanic and Latinx identity and recognized as a leader within the BIPOC community, Luisa Fuentes is widely regarded as the face of Spanish language immersion and cultural development in early childhood education in the United States, responsibly elevating culture with authenticity, respect, and educational purpose.
